API keys establish a secure connection between Cornix and your exchange accounts. These keys must remain valid and properly configured to ensure uninterrupted service for your Bots and manual trading.

Common API Key Issues

If your account connection drops, it is usually due to one of two reasons:

  • Deleted API Keys: If you delete your API key directly on the exchange, Cornix will detect the missing connection when attempting to place a trade and will automatically deactivate your Bot.

  • Expired API Keys: Many exchanges set mandatory expiration dates for API keys as a security measure. Once the key expires, the connected account in Cornix will display an Invalid status on the Accounts page.

How to Update an Expired or Deleted API Key

To resolve an invalid connection, you need to update the API keys within your existing Cornix account settings.

⚠️ Important: Do not use the "Delete" option on the invalid account in Cornix! Updating the keys via the Edit menu ensures that your historical trade and portfolio data remain perfectly intact.

  1. Log into your exchange account directly and create a brand new API Key and Secret Key (or update the permissions on your existing key).

  2. Open Cornix, navigate to the Portfolio section, and then go to the Accounts tab.

  3. Locate the specific account card that is displaying the Invalid status.

  4. Click the three-dot menu (...) in the top right corner of that account card and select Edit.

  5. Paste your newly generated API Key and Secret Key into the respective fields.

  6. Click the Save button to refresh and restore your connection.

Reconnecting a New Account

If you deleted the account entirely by mistake, or if you need to create a completely new connection, you can follow the standard setup process detailed in here or follow this quick guide:

  1. Navigate to the Accounts tab under the Portfolio section.

  2. Click the blue + Create button in the top right corner.

  3. Select your exchange from the list.

  4. Choose the relevant account types you wish to connect (e.g., Spot, Futures, Inverse).

  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to link the account using Quick Connect (recommended for speed) or by manually entering your API details.

Platform-Specific Tips

πŸ’‘Note: Different exchanges handle API permissions slightly differently. Keep these tips in mind:

  • Coinbase: Double-check that your newly generated API keys are created with the correct permissions enabled for both trading and portfolio access. Coinbase connect guide.

  • Bybit: Bybit API keys often have strict expiration dates. You can proactively check your exchange settings and use the Cornix Web Dashboard or Mobile App to edit your keys before they officially expire to prevent any trading downtime.
